Giant waves of typhoon Fitow hit China

The powerful typhoon Fitow made landfall in easter China in the morning today. With winds up to 82 knots (151km/h) and waves more than 20 meters high the storm triggered the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of people.

At least two people have been killed by the typhoon, state-run news agency reported. One victim was on his way to rescue a fisherman when he was blown off a hill by strong winds late on Sunday.

On Tuesday a 20-year-old Russian and 23-year-old Ukrainian, both men, had to be pulled out in an area near the Cape Greco known by locals as “the caves”. The area has a rocky terrain and difficult access points. There’s also a popular spot for cliff jumping with deep crystal clear water.
